Derek Curiel - Prospect Profile
Jim Callis - MLB - September 16th: "Curiel created some first-round buzz in high school before a disappointing senior season, but he erased memories of that by slashing .345/.470/.519 en route to winning a Men's College World Series championship and National Freshman of the Year accolades in 2025. He makes consistent contact to all fields and controls the strike zone, and he'll help his cause next spring if he can develop more power and handle a move from left field to center (he has the solid speed and instincts to do so)."Joel Reuter - Bleacher Report - August 20th: "Curiel made an immediate impact as a true freshman for last year's national champions, hitting .345/.470/.519 with 29 extra-base hits and a 16.4 percent walk rate while manning left field and hitting leadoff. He is expected to take over as the starting center field next spring, and if he looks the part while continuing to produce at the plate, he will be one of the top draft-eligible sophomores in the class."
Jonathan Mayo - MLB - July 17th: "A highly regarded prospect coming out of Orange Lutheran High School in California, Curiel headed on to LSU and had an outstanding freshman season, finishing with a .345/.470/.519 line and nearly as many walks (53) as strikeouts (56). That sets the stage for what could be a huge Draft-eligible sophomore season, especially with a move to center field in the works, though he'll still have to prove he can drive the ball."
Baseball America - July 16th: "Curiel has been known for his advanced hitability dating back to his days as a prepster, and his hit tool grades out as plus. He has a simple, rhythmic operation in which he takes a direct path to contact and sprays line drives to all parts of the field. Curiel has outstanding bat-to-ball skills and posted a 94% overall in-zone contact rate, including 97% against fastballs."
