Cole Carlon - Prospect Profile
Baseball America - July 8th: "He now sits around 96 mph and touches 100-101. His fastball is a clear plus offering on power alone, but Carlon doesn’t use it as his primary offering. Instead, he pitches off a power slider in the upper 80s that is one of the best breaking balls in the class. He threw the pitch more than half the time this spring and still managed to generate a 56% miss rate."Prospects 1500 - July 8th: "Carlon has massive stuff with a fastball in the mid to upper 90s and one of the best sliders in the class, with a sharp gyro shape. It is really a two pitch mix so there is plenty of reliever risk, but he does have starter upside."
MLB -July : "The lefty can run his fastball up to 98 mph, sitting around 94 mph, though it can get flat with scattered command. He's able to get back in line with his breaking stuff, starting with an 87-88 mph cutter-like short slider he throws as often as his heater that misses a ton of bats. He can manipulate it and make it a bit longer at times, and he also has an average 12-to-6 curve that offers a different look."
Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "He’s been a little homer-prone this year, but it’s nearly always with no one on base; 11 of the 14 homers he allowed were solo shots, as he goes fastball-heavy with the bases empty. He’ll need to use his changeup more in pro ball, and maybe get a little more deception to it, although the pitch was effective in a small sample this spring. He looks like a potential mid-rotation starter with some modest tweaks."
