Baseball America - July 8th: "Ruiz is a switch-hitting shortstop who dazzles with his glove and posts low swing-and-miss rates at the plate. He’s the best defensive shortstop in the 2026 high school class, with quick feet, soft hands and smooth actions. An instinctive defender with good body control and a quick release, Ruiz has a knack for making the acrobatic, highlight-reel plays but also has a good internal clock to play under control."

MLB -July : "He's an elite defender with a plus arm and range, great hands and outstanding footwork. Unlike with many young players at the premium position, Ruiz not only makes the spectacular, acrobatic plays, throwing on the run, he also slows the game down and makes the routine plays as well. It's future Gold Glove-caliber defense."

Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "Ruiz is undersized but has gotten stronger, to the point where he could get some first-round consideration as a potential leadoff type who sticks at shortstop. He’s one of the best hitters for contact anywhere in the draft class, with below-average power but more impact this year than he showed last summer. He is definitely a shortstop, potentially a plus or better defender there."
