Seth Hernandez - Prospect Profile
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - July 8th: "Hernandez could be the rare prep righty to go high in the draft and go wire-to-wire becoming an ace, similar to fellow two-way SoCal standout Hunter Greene, but this player demographic is seen as the riskiest in the draft because the hits are less frequent than you might think while the busts are spectacular and numerous."MLB.com - July 1st: "Hernandez has an ideal projectable 6-foot-4 pitcher’s frame with the athleticism teams love to see from young power arms. Always on time with an online and loose delivery, Hernandez has big stuff and a feel for all four of his pitches."
Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "He’s been up to 100 mph on his four-seamer, although the velocity, which is more typically 94-97, isn’t the main attraction. He has at least a 60 changeup and an above-average curveball as well, along with a slider that’s extremely inconsistent right now but that I think will improve significantly once he gets to a team with a good pitching lab — he can spin the ball and he has plenty of arm speed, so it’s hard to imagine him not getting to a plus slider."
Baseball America - June 25th: "Hernandez is a standout athlete with a 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame and throws with a clean delivery and three-quarters slot. If he weren’t a pitcher he would be a legitimate pro prospect as a hitter and shortstop."
Tyler Jennings - Just Baseball - March 24th: "His fastball has sat in the low-to-mid 90s thus far, though he’s gotten up to 96-98 MPH, even touching triple digits this spring, and projects to sit closer to that mark as he fills out his frame. He gets solid extension and fills up the strike zone, as well as showing a tendency to miss bats on the top rail."
Prep Baseball Draft HQ - March 19th: "He’s K’d 27 in 13 innings this spring with just six hits allowed and only one walk. He’s an athlete with pedigree and an upper-90s fastball with whiff-inducing secondaries, so we’ll see where one of the nation’s top high schoolers lands while battling this prep righty profile."
Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - March 10th: "Hernandez has an upper-90s fastball, a changeup that rivals anyone’s in the class, two legitimate breaking ball shapes, athleticism and command."
Keith Law - The Athletic - March 4th: "He’s 6-4 and still projectable, sitting 97-98 this spring, with a real four-pitch mix including a changeup that’s plus when he hits it, a sharp slider, and a high-spin curveball. There’s some similarity here to Noble Meyer, who was the No. 10 pick in 2023."
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - February 21st: "Hernandez is more reliant on current arm speed, reaching triple digits at times, and mixing in a changeup that plays well off his heater -- but his two breaking balls are more fringy to average."
