Kayson Cunningham - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - July 1st: "Cunningham has exceptional barrel control and rarely swings and misses. He has a mature approach, covers the entire strike zone and utilizes the whole field. Though he's not physical, his bat speed and ability to repeatedly barrel balls should enable him to get to 15-20 homers per season."

Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "The swing is a little flat through contact, so the power potential here is limited unless someone can get him to loft the ball more. He has a 55 or 60 arm at shortstop and his hands are excellent; I’ve heard very mixed reviews on whether he’ll stay there, as he’s at least not the prototypical shortstop and it’s not clear if he has the lateral range to stick."

Baseball America - June 25th: "It’s also Cunningham who can claim to be the best pure hitter in the class—high school or otherwise. Listed at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, he is a lefthanded hitter with a quick, efficient and adjustable swing that has allowed him to perform at a high level against top arms in the class for years."

It’s a smooth, direct left-handed swing with a good bit of bat speed and an all-fields approach at the dish. The hit tool projects as a plus or better tool with contact rates over 90% over the summer."

Of all the players in this class, I think Cunningham is the one I’d feel most confident throwing a plus hit tool on. His swing is so direct and compact and quick."
