Josh Hammond - Prospect Profile
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - July 8th: "This spring, he slimmed down, got stronger and looked like prime Josh Donaldson, with 65- or 70-grade raw power, a solid shortstop glove and limited range that will likely slide him over to third base. Hammond visually looked like a power-over-hit type with this adjustment, and his spring was just OK (yes, like Fien) but in large part because he faced awful pitching."MLB.com - July 1st: "Hammond has at least plus raw power that plays to all fields and hits the ball exceptionally hard from the right side of the plate. His bat speed and strength should translate into 20-25 homers per season, perhaps more if he learns to lift balls in the air more consistently."
Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "He’s an excellent athlete with plus raw power and a 70 arm, moving well at shortstop with the potential that he’ll just get too big for the position and end up a plus defender at third. His approach is the main question, and what it implies about his future hit tool; he doesn’t swing and miss much but he will follow breaking stuff out of the zone, especially right-on-right."
Baseball America - June 25th: "On the mound he has great arm speed, a fastball up to 99 mph and the makings of a plus slider. If he wanted to pitch, he would likely fit in the first three rounds of the draft. But he prefers hitting and this spring showed why teams needed to take him seriously as an infielder and power-oriented righthanded bat."
Tyler Jennings - Just Baseball - March 24th: "While the command itself is a work in progress and will need refinement, he has the makings of a true power pitcher. He has a very strong lower half down the mound, as well as extremely quick arm speed and fluidity down the mound."
Prep Baseball Draft HQ - March 19th: " It’s a strong right-handed swing that’s already generated three homers in the brief high school season so far, in which he’s hitting .560 (14-for-25) with three doubles in addition to those three long balls, and he’s K’d just three times against nine walks."
