Jamie Arnold - Prospect Profile
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - July 8th: "The hesitations are that Arnold's fastball got hit a little too hard, his cutter is just an OK pitch that he needs to bridge his heater and slider, and he has more control (throwing it over the plate) than command (hitting spots). He could be a No. 2/No. 3 starter with three above-to-plus pitches if it clicks, but there's still some work to do."MLB.com - July 1st: "A left-hander with a rangy body and a loose, whippy arm, Arnold has seen his stuff tick up since leaving Jesuit High School for Tallahassee. Coming from a lower arm slot and flat approach angle, his fastball, which was 88-92 mph in high school, now sits in the 94-95 mph range and touches 97 mph, with a ton of life to miss bats."
Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "He’s taken a tiny step back in stuff this year, although he’s still topping out at 97-98, just sitting about a half a mile an hour less, so now he’s 91-95 but with a ton of ride, coming from such a low slot — nearly sidearm — that hitters can’t square it up. He works with a plus slider that gets huge horizontal break and he can throw a true changeup that’s at least a 55, with great arm speed and late, sudden tumble to it."
Baseball America - June 25th: "At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Arnold has a smooth delivery that features a deep, plunging arm action in back before he cascades down the mound and throws from an extremely low three-quarters slot. His low release height creates a flat approach angle and adds deception that amplifies his entire pitch mix."
Tyler Jennings - Just Baseball - March 24th: "His mid-80s sweeper is his best secondary, landing the pitch for strikes consistently and averaging over ten inches of horizontal movement. He commands the pitch well and there’s some backfoot capabilities to righties."
David Seifert - Prep Baseball Draft HQ - March 19th: "Off to a phenomenal start with a 1.12 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 16 innings, the Josh Hader-like lefthander missed his Friday start due to an illness, but he’s expected back for the ACC opener this weekend against Boston College. He too, has an elite fastball that has averaged 93 mph this spring and it’s paired with another 100th percentile swing/miss slider."
Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - March 10th: "He has a pair of plus pitches between his fastball and slider, and the changeup he has flashed more often this spring looks like another above-average offering. For me, he’s a slam dunk starter profile with above-average control."
Keith Law - The Athletic - March 4th: "He’s 92-95 with plus movement and has a plus slider, coming from a slot that’s barely above sidearm and working way across his body. He finished third in Division I in strikeouts last year with 159, behind only Chase Burns (the No. 2 pick) and Hagen Smith (No. 5 pick)."
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - February 21st: "He is now a rare pitcher who has a mid-90s heater with a sweeper and newly improved changeup that he delivers from a lower arm slot and very low release height that gives his pitches bat-missing characteristics."
