Ike Irish - Prospect Profile
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - July 8th: "He delivered offensively with some of the best in-conference numbers in the SEC and comes with other indicators that analytical draft models love: long track record in the best conference, left-handed hitter, has a secondary position that's more valuable and was a real prospect out of high school."MLB.com - July 1st: "He made hard contact to all fields while handling all types of pitches and lefties as well as righties. His 20-25 homer power plays to all fields, though some scouts wonder exactly how much pop he'll have in pro ball because he produces a lot of groundballs and hit two homers in 62 games with wood bats in the Cape Cod League."
Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "He’s about a 45 receiver now, needing some work across the board behind the plate other than his throwing, where he nailed six of eight would-be basestealers before his injury. His ability to hit, and to handle stuff on the outer third so well, gives him a different sort of floor than the typical catching prospect — maybe he ends up at another position, but hits enough to profile as an above-average regular even if it’s an outfield corner."
Baseball America - June 25th: "Irish has a strong frame at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and uses a wide, open setup in the box. He has good rhythm and a solid understanding of the zone, with a swing that can get long at times but typically stays in the hitting zone and comes through with impressive bat speed."
Tyler Jennings - Just Baseball - March 24th: "He does showcase leverage at times and can tap into average or better power to his pull-side, though he’ll need to find a bit more consistency with that to avoid a ground ball rate over 50% like he had on the Cape."
Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - March 10th: "He’s still been splitting time between the outfield and catcher, and I hoped he’d be getting near everyday reps behind the dish. I like how his swing works. If he’s not the defender that Luke Stevenson is right now, I think he’s got a better hit/power combination."
Keith Law - The Athletic - March 4th: "He’s got a plus arm and is more than capable of becoming an average receiver; if he’s not, he’s still a first-round bat, but probably in the bottom third."
Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - February 21st: "I'll likely jumble Bodine, Stevenson and Irish during the spring as they're the top college catchers in the class. Bodine has standout on-base skills, Stevenson is well-rounded and Irish is more power-forward."
