Dean Curley
Ht/Wt: 6' 3"/218 lbs
Position: SS
Team: Tennessee

Dean Curley - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - July 1st: "More physical than most shortstops at 6-foot-3 and 218 pounds, Curley has solid-to-plus raw power and lets it come naturally. He understands the strike zone and works from gap to gap with a quick, controlled right-handed stroke. But he has gotten overly selective at times this spring and hasn't done as much damage against non-fastballs as he did as a freshman."

Keith Law - The Athletic - July 1st: "Curley has excellent feel to hit with a simple swing that gets the ball in the air, although as the season went on he started to have more trouble picking up off-speed stuff from the better pitching in the SEC. He rarely chases pitches well outside of the zone (10 percent this year on pitches beyond the "shadow," down from 14 percent last year), and makes enough contact in the zone to project an average hit tool, although his performance in conference is a little concerning."

Baseball America - June 25th: "Curley has a big league body at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds with length in his lower half and strength and physicality throughout. Curley has a small stride from a slightly crouched stance and fires his hands with quick bat speed and an operation that’s under control with minimal moving parts."

Tyler Jennings - Just Baseball - March 24th: "Curley has the tools to handle shortstop long-term, even with the physicality present in his profile. He has the arm strength to settle at the position, though accuracy can get streaky with his arm action."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - March 10th: "I think his offensive profile is one of the most well-rounded in the class right now, and he’s off to a strong start this spring. I’d expect him to move off the position and land at either second base or third in pro ball, but I’m guessing teams will believe in his offensive upside enough for that to be a non-issue."

Keith Law - The Athletic - March 4th: "He’s got an easy plus arm and would be fine if he has to move off shortstop, where he’s probably solid-average or a tick better but might outgrow the position."
