Coy James
Ht/Wt: 6' 0"/180 lbs
Position: SS
Team: Davie County HS, Mocksville, N.C.

Coy James - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - July 1st: "James has gained some weight in the last year, adding strength but losing athleticism. His right-handed stroke doesn't look as smooth as it once did, and his swing decisions have regressed as well. Gatorade's North Carolina high school player of the year, he still shows 20-homer power but he's selling out more to get to it."

Baseball America - June 25th: "He’s one of the better pure hitters in the 2025 prep class, with a lengthy track record of performance that includes an MVP award with USA Baseball’s gold medal-winning 15U National Team in 2022, an underclass appearance on the 18U National Team in 2023 and a Gatorade North Carolina player of the year award in 2025 after he hit over .600 in his senior season with Davie County High. "

Joel Reuter - Bleacher Report - August 14th: "The 6'0", 185-pound shortstop has an aggressive approach at the plate, but he makes consistent hard contact and is just starting to tap into his power potential. James also has the quickness and athleticism to stick at shortstop, which could help separate him from some of the other top shortstops in the high school class."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - July 23rd: "Anderson missed his senior year in high school because of Tommy John surgery but bounced back for the Tigers as a freshman, regularly getting into the mid-90s and showing starter traits."

Jonathan Mayo - MLB - July 19th: "He’s a strong right-handed hitter with a natural swing, finding the barrel consistently. The Mississippi recruit has some power to tap into as well, with the chance to stick at shortstop thanks to his defensive instincts."

Baseball America - July 17th: "He’s an aggressive hitter with good hand-eye coordination to make frequent contact with a compact swing. He catches up to good velocity and has the adjustability to barrel balls even when he doesn’t get off his best swing."
