William Schmidt - Prospect Profile

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - March 18th: "Schmidt has added more velocity and been an up-arrow prospect this spring after entering it with loud expectations and day one draft stock. He’s now put himself in position to be the first prep arm off the board and he also has some of the best innate feel to spin the baseball in the class."

Joe Doyle - Future Star Series - March 18th: "He's got a high-spin 12-6 curveball that comfortably grabs plus projections from scouts. It's a two-plane banger that's been a knockout weapon featuring considerable depth and disgusting tunnel off his fastball, more depth than lateral tilt."

MLB.com - March 8th: "Schmidt can spin his curveball at upwards of 3,000 rpm, and it's an upper-70s hammer that breaks so much that it often fools umpires as well as hitters. He has good command of a fastball that parks in the low 90s and maxes out at 95 mph, and it's effective thanks to its carry and arm-side run."

Keith Law - The Athletic - March 7th: "Schmidt is a tall, projectable prep pitcher who’s been up to 96 mph with ride and run on the pitch and has a plus curveball now, an 11/5 hammer with spin rates around 3,000 rpm. He takes a huge stride towards the plate, about as long as is humanly possible, helping generate that arm speed from his lower half."
