Team: North Carolina

Vance Honeycutt - Prospect Profile

Joel Reuter - Bleacher Report - July 7th: "One of the most polarizing prospects in this year's first-round picture, Honeycutt has an elite combination of power, speed and athleticism, and he hit .318/.410/.714 with 28 home runs, 70 RBI and 28 steals this spring. However, he also struck out 83 times in 62 games, giving him the always risky 40-hit, 60-power offensive profile with question marks about how much of his plus power he will be able to tap into in pro ball."

Ayrton Ostly - USA Today - July 4th: "Honeycutt is arguably the best defensive player in the draft with Golden Glove potential. He posted career-highs in batting average (0.318), slugging (0.714), and home runs (28) in 2024."

Baseball America - July 1st: "The fact that a 6-foot-3, 205-pound center fielder with his physical tools and production in the Atlantic Coast Conference isn’t viewed at the very top of the class speaks to the questions present in his offensive profile. Honeycutt has oscillated between a highly productive hitter with loads of strikeouts and one who can reign in the whiffs but at the cost of his power output."

MLB.com - July 1st: "He carried a 30 percent strikeout rate as a freshman, cut it to 20 percent as a sophomore (when he wasn't nearly as productive) and has seen it shoot back up to 28 percent as a junior. He has a decent right-handed swing but needs to refine his pull-heavy approach, do a better job of making in-zone contact and cut down on his chases."

Prospects Live - May 29th: "He's an excellent runner underway and he's shown it on the basepaths and in center, where he projects to stick long term. It's excellent range with defensive prowess, making highlight reel plays look easy."

Keith Law - The Athletic - May 22nd: "Honeycutt is a 70 defender with 70 power, but even with a midseason swing change to raise his hands he’s still striking out too often — even whiffing in-zone — to be a first-rounder for me. He’s a project for player development who has huge upside because of those two plus tools."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 8th: "Two scouts mentioned Rays outfielder Jose Siri as a potential MLB comp for Vance Honeycutt as there are teams that think the North Carolina star is a 70 defender in center field but might also be a 30-grade hitter. While that hit grade sounds harsh, Honeycutt would be a low-end starter if he can keep some power and patience in his profile when he gets to the big leagues."
