Josh Hartle - Prospect Profile

Baseball America - July 1st: "Things did not go smoothly in 2024. He posted a career-worst 5.74 ERA in 74.2 innings and 15 starts with command that backed up and pure stuff that rarely missed bats. Hartle has a deep pitch mix that includes a sinking fastball that averages 90 mph and touches 93-94, a mid-80s sweepy slider that occasionally has a slurvy look, an upper-80s cutter and a mid-80s changeup."

MLB.com - July 1st: "But his heater, slider and cutter haven't been as effective during his junior season. Hartle has an easy delivery that has allowed him to sling strikes and move his pitches around wherever he wants in the past. But he has lacked his usual precision in 2024 and gotten cutter-happy at the expense of his fastball."

Joe Doyle - Future Star Series - March 18th: "Hartle lives in the low-90s but projects to throw harder with added strength. His slider is a sweeper with huge depth and the changeup really fades back off the slider tunnel. Those two offerings have produced immense whiff rates in the ACC."

MLB.com - March 8th: "Hartle has exquisite feel for four different pitches, starting with a fastball that averages 90 mph and tops out at 94 but misses plenty of bats because of his angle, sinking and boring action and command. His plus low-80s slider with two-plane depth is his best secondary pitch, though his upper-80s cutter isn't far behind and his mid-80s changeup also has its moments. "

Keith Law - The Athletic - March 7th: "Hartle’s a command lefty who comes at hitters with five pitches, working away from his 90-92 mph fastball to lean more on his offspeed stuff, ramping up his use of a cutter this year compared to last spring. He starts all the way on the first-base side of the rubber and cuts himself off a little in his landing, so he comes across his body and has trouble locating to his glove side."
