James Tibbs
Ht/Wt: 6' 0"/200 lbs
Position: OF
Team: Florida State

James Tibbs III - Prospect Profile

Joel Reuter - Bleacher Report - July 7th: "After a terrific run in the Cape Cod League last summer, Tibbs hit .363/.488/.777 with 28 home runs and 95 RBI in 66 games this spring to solidify his status as one of the most polished college hitters in the country."

Ayrton Ostly - USA Today - July 4th: "Tibbs III is right behind Caglianone and Condon as far as power hitters in the class. He finished the season with 28 home runs, tied for seventh-most in the country."

Baseball America - July 1st: "He ended it with a reputation as one of the best pure hitters in a down draft class with just a 10.5% strikeout rate in 2024. He has a clean lefty swing and an ability to use the entire field with solid impact, and while he does swing and miss a bit versus secondaries, he generally makes sound swing decisions and has produced at a high clip against velocity of 92 mph and faster."

MLB.com - July 1st: "The left-handed hitter is confident and smart at the plate, with an approach he’s improved over his time at Florida State, cutting his strikeout rate and upping his walk rate considerably from his freshman to his sophomore seasons, and even more so this spring. He punishes fastballs and has been showing the ability to get to his average power and drive the ball to all fields, though he’s struggled more with breaking stuff in the past."

Prospects Live - May 29th: "Tibbs' compact, rotational swing features a slight uppercut, but still allows him to use the whole field and be on time with all pitch types. Defensively, Tibbs has mostly played the corner outfield, with a little bit of 1B."

Keith Law - The Athletic - May 22nd: "He makes great swing decisions and his contact quality is strong, getting up over 110 mph for his maximum EV this spring after topping out at 105 last summer with wood. He’s limited to an outfield corner, though, so he has to rake."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 8th: "Tibbs is an above-average hitter with above-average power and a good approach but limited upside due to his corner-outfield fit."
