Cam Smith - Prospect Profile

Joel Reuter - Bleacher Report - July 7th: "That proved to be the jumping off point for a huge sophomore season, as he batted .387/.488/.654 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs and 57 RBI in 66 games. The draft-eligible sophomore is still working to fully tap into his tremendous raw power, and his offensive upside is exactly what the Marlins should be hunting for in this draft."

Ayrton Ostly - USA Today - July 4th: "Cam Smith was another Men's College World Series star with two-run homers to sweep the Seminoles through regional play. He improved at the plate and at third base as a sophomore this season."

Baseball America - July 1st: "After previously using an upright stance in the box, Smith is now more grounded and crouched in his stance with an all-fields approach that has led to more contact but also more balls on the ground. Developing a healthy balance between the two could be the goal in pro ball, because Smith’s swing can be a bit manufactured and prevent him from fully tapping into his plus raw power."

MLB.com - July 1st: "How much he hits will help dictate how consistently he can get to his plus raw power, and he’s answered that question well last summer and this spring. He struggled to stick to an approach and have quality at-bats during his freshman year, often chasing pitches out of the zone, but that was vastly improved on the Cape, with his miss rate dropping from 29 percent to 19 over the summer."

Prospects Live - May 29th: "His ability to drive the ball hard and often with the contact rates that he posted over the summer make him one of the highest upside hitters in the class. He also moves remarkably well at third base, which should be his long-term home as a professional."

Keith Law - The Athletic - May 22nd: "Smith reworked his swing and his body last offseason, bouncing back from a .258/.326/.517 line as a 20-year-old freshman at FSU to a .400/.484/.668 line entering the conference tournament, improving in every possible way as a hitter. He’s played third base in Tallahassee but scouts think he ends up at first or perhaps in an outfield corner."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 8th: "Smith has massive raw power, deceptive speed given his size and might be a third baseman long term. He has performed this spring by cutting down his swing, which is now so toned down that I worry it removed his rhythm and could create problems against the caliber of stuff he'll see in the upper minors."
