Position: SS
Team: Ole Miss

Jacob Gonzalez - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May 19th: "Gonzalez has the bat-to-ball skills and control of the strike zone to be at least a solid hitter, and he has been more consistent in 2023 after hunting home runs too much as a sophomore. With his strength, bat speed and the leverage in his left-handed stroke, he has 25-homer potential."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 11th: "Gonzalez has been a tremendously consistent offensive player his entire career, and his 2023 season is looking more like his breakout freshman season than his 2022 season where he got off to a bit of a slow start."

Jim Callis - MLB.com - May 4th: "Gonzalez has the ability to hit for both average and power, though scouts are divided about his ability to remain at shortstop despite him starting there for the U.S. collegiate national team the last two summers."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 3rd: "I'm still hearing differing levels of enthusiasm for Gonzalez, but he's a lefty-hitting SEC shortstop who can stick at the position and has hit 38 homers in 176 college games. That's the exact kind of player that scouts complain doesn't exist in the draft, but you can still nitpick that Gonzalez's swing is a bit quirky, and he's just an OK runner."

Prospects Live - April: "Not only does he have a strong understanding for the strike zone, but he rarely swings and misses, and it isn't just contact, he makes plenty of quality line drive contact. He's hit over power, he did have 18 homers in 2022, and he presents a great body, with good lower half strength on what is still a fairly lean frame."
