Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - June 18: "He glides around the infield with silky smooth actions and has the hands, footwork and arm strength to stick at shortstop long term. He slows the game down and has no problem throwing from multiple angles with an accurate arm."

MLB - June: "He has average or above tools across the board, starting with a plus feel to hit from the left side of the plate. He has an advanced approach and knowledge of the strike zone to go with elite bat-to-ball skills and a pure stroke."

Prospects Live - May 31: "Mayer is a hit-over-power bat right now, but he’s become more physical over the past nine months, leading some to believe he’s a future 60+ hitter with at least above average power. It’s a fantastic frame to dream on as he continues to add strength."
