Team: Vanderbilt

Kumar Rocker - Prospect Profile

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - June 18: "Rocker has dealt with inconsistent velocity this spring, sitting in the 89-93 mph range at times before getting back to his usual mid-90s stuff. He’s still succeeded and overwhelmed SEC hitters even without his best velocity, but scouts question how that pitch will play at the next level, especially due to the fact that his fastball has played down at times dating back to high school."

MLB - June: "He usually operates at 93-96 mph with his heater, which can reach 99 and features some run and sink but also can get flat at times, though his velocity sat in the low 90s for three weeks early in the season. He notched all 19 of his whiffs in his no-hitter with his slider, a mid-80s beast with power and depth that grades as plus-plus, and he also has a low-80s curveball with more vertical break."

Prospects Live - May 31: "Rocker began 2021 throwing 93-96, touching 99. He has since dipped into the 89-92 range. That velocity decay is something scouts are watching closely."

Prospects Live - Mar. 18: "Fastball command still isn’t a plus, but it’s looked markedly improved in 2021. Even when the fastball isn’t on, his feel for the slider allows the luxury of going full-on slider dominant for a night."

Michael Dault - Through The Fence Baseball - Mar. 13th: "He’s not a magician or even a technical pitcher. He’s a work horse. The one concern is if he will only rely on his velocity to get batters out. Because, if so, he’ll be on a fast track to the bullpen rather than a starting role."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - Feb. 26th: "[His fastball is] in the mid-90s (up to 98 mph) with a plus slider, usable changeup and solid control, but scouts want to see more precision in his command and execution."

R.J. Anderson - CBS Sports - Feb. 15th: "The downside to him already looking the part is that teams have concern about his long-term body maintenance. There are other, more pressing considerations to navigate here as well. Despite the raw velocity and improving metrics, his fastball's results have underwhelmed dating back to his high-school days."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - Jan. 26th: "Rocker has shown an above-average changeup in the past, but scouts want to see it improved this spring and like many college pitchers he doesn’t use it frequently, instead opting for his fastball or slider. After missing a start last spring scouts will want to see him fully healthy and starting over the full season."

Ian Smith - Prospects 365 - Nov. 8: "The Vanderbilt ace presents the most ready MLB body and arsenal as we stand right now, led by a plus fastball sitting in the high 90s with a wipeout slider that could grade out to be a 70-grade offering."
