Adrian Del Castillo - Prospect Profile

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - June 18: "Del Castillo does have a loose, easy swing from the left side, with solid zone recognition and low strikeout rates for his career, so many scouts still think he’ll be a plus hitter, but the question of defensive profile and impact potential loom after his 2021 season."

MLB - June: "There is a lot to like about Del Castillo’s offensive profile, starting with his outstanding left-handed swing. He has a strong tendency to barrel up the baseball with an advanced approach, leading to more walks than strikeouts over his first two years with the Hurricanes. He hit 14 homers in just under 350 plate appearances at Miami."

Prospects Live - May 31: "Bat-first catcher that was the best hitter on a strong Miami club in 2020. Easy left-handed swing, with advanced zone recognition and a knack for finding the barrel. Still learning his way behind the plate where his lack of athleticism and quickness is a detriment and a concern for scouts who wonder if he can catch long-term."

Prospects Live - Mar. 18: "A month into the season there’s now some question around his ability to hit for power. At this point in the season too much is made of small samples and few bats match the hit+power upside of the Miami backstop."

Michael Dault - Through The Fence Baseball - Mar. 13th: "His defense has always been in question, but that’s okay, he’s more of a Victor Martinez prospect, where his bat is more valuable than his position."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - Feb. 26th: "Del Castillo probably doesn't have a plus tool, but he's average behind the plate, can really hit, has a solid approach and has 20-homer type raw power."

R.J. Anderson - CBS Sports - Feb. 15th: "He has a keen eye and a good feel for contact thanks to a handsy, line-drive swing that sees him keep the barrel tight to his body. He has above-average juice, too, though he's more of a hitter with power than a power hitter."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - Jan. 26th: "His biggest skeptics wonder if he can catch long term, so Del Castillo will need to show his work from last summer (with Royals catcher Salvador Perez) translates to games this spring. That includes receiving, blocking and showing better arm strength."

Ian Smith - Prospects 365 - Nov. 8: "Del Castillo presents a highly advanced approach at the plate with an easy, left handed cut that screams plus power potential as he develops. Truly have no idea where he will be playing defensively at the pro level as he will be drafted as a catcher, but I think a home at first base or designated hitter is more likely."
