Position: 1B
Team: Arizona State

Spencer Torkelson - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "He controls at-bats extremely well and draws a ton of walks. He's able to drive the ball from foul pole to foul pole and he uses the middle of the field when he's at his best. He's able to hit the ball out to all fields, with tremendous loft power to his pull side. He doesn't sell out for that power, but gets to it with ease."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "Hitting with power to all fields, Torkelson showed more of an ability to pull pitches over the middle of the plate during his abbreviated junior season. There are still some tweaks to his swing that can be made, as he at times was too much out on the front side this season, pulling off and taking away the bottom half."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 13th: "Torkelson projects as an above-average hitter with an above-average walk rate and 70-grade, 30-plus homer power. He can be passable in left field, maybe a hair below average defensively, and scouts see him turning into a Pete Alonso type of player, but with a little more athleticism and defensive value."

ESPN - May 9th: ""Tork" is the safest pick in the draft because he raked from the moment he stepped on campus and in two summers for Team USA with a wood bat."

Ian Smith - Prospect 365 - Apr. 26th: "An elite hit tool combined with potential for 70+ power. Built in a strong 6-foot-2, 215 lb. frame with a short, powerful swing that shows power to all fields. Great plate discipline and extremely quick hands that consistently produce triple-digit exit velocities."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "He has a quick, compact swing from the right side of the plate. His profile as a right-handed hitting first baseman, which hurts his value slightly."

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "Torkelson has everything you’d want in a hitting prospect – power (54 homers already in two-plus years in college), patience, and youth, as he won’t turn 21 until August."

Athlon Sports - Mar. 10th: "Torkelson’s bat is every bit as impressive as [Andrew] Vaughn’s (he has 48 home runs in his first two seasons), and he’s more athletic, so he has a chance to go No. 1 overall."
