Nick Gonzales - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "There's strength in his compact frame, but he might be more of a doubles hitter even though he did homer seven times on the Cape in 154 at-bats with wood. Gonzales has decent speed and is a solid baserunner, and while he played shortstop this spring, evaluators don't think he has the arm or range to play shortstop. That does limit him to second base, but he's at least average there defensively."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "A second baseman in his first two college seasons, Gonzales switched to shortstop this year to showcase himself prior to the draft. Opinions are mixed as to whether he can handle the position, with most observers wanting to put him at second base and just let him be an elite hitter at the position."

ESPN - May 9th: "Gonzales plays in one of the most supercharged offensive environments in college baseball, but he also raked on the Cape last summer with wood bats against superior competition."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "He’s played at 3,900 feet above sea level at New Mexico State, but his success last summer in the Cape Cod League has quieted some of the critics. He played shortstop this spring but profiles as an offensive-minded second baseman in pro ball."

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "Gonzales hit five homers in a game this season, albeit at 3900 feet above sea level; he can hit, and is likely to hit more for average than for big power, with a potential move to second down the road."

Athlon Sports - Mar. 10th: "He led NCAA Division I with a .432 average in 2019 (with 16 home runs), and he followed that up by hitting .351 with a wood bat in the Cape Cod League during the summer."
