Emerson Hancock - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "His go-to breaking ball is a mid-80s slider with which he manipulates the break exceptionally well, and Hancock also has a hard curveball that he relied on more in high school. He hasn't had to use his changeup much but he fades and locates it well, earning some plus-plus grades at times."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "Hancock’s fastball ranges from 93-97, though some evaluators question the underlying quality of the pitch, wondering if it has the riding life and swing-and-miss qualities you’d like to see from a frontline starter. It’s possible a lower arm slot leads to some of those concerns."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 13th: "Hancock had a slow start to this season, but some thought he'd work his way into that top tier with a strong spring."

Ian Smith - Prospect 365 - Apr. 26th: "An effortless, repeatable delivery gives him the ability to paint the corners with a mid-90s fastball that he pairs well with a slider and fantastic changeup. He throws the curveball on a limited basis at this time, but the pitch shows good shape and his command allows it to play all over the zone and to both right-handed and left-handed hitters."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "Emerson Hancock is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound righty who has a high-90s fastball, an effective curveball and a changeup that shows above-average potential. He was a possible option for the first-overall pick this year but was inconsistent against average competition in his four starts this spring."

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "Hancock was mentioned by scouts as a possible 1-1 pick before the season, but hasn’t come out strongly, between a rougher delivery, reduced command, and a lot more use of his two sliders than his plus (or better) changeup."

JJ Cooper of Athlon Sports - Mar. 10th: "If he just stays healthy and throws the same upper-90s fastball, slider, curve and changeup he showed last year, he’ll go near the top of the draft."
