Ed Howard
Ht/Wt: 6' 2"/185 lbs
Position: SS
Team: Mount Carmel HS (IL)

Ed Howard - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "Using a simple right-handed swing and a calm approach, Howard makes repeated hard contact. He has impressive bat speed and a projectable 6-foot-2 frame that continues to add strength, so he could develop average or better power. He has solid speed and uses it well on the bases."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "The one critique in his defensive game is that scouts would like to see better foot speed. He’s a solid runner, but not a burner by any means. Scouts will have to project more on Howard’s offensive game, particularly after not seeing him in games this season."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 13th: "Howard is sliding a bit, as clubs are worried about a shoulder issue and how it may affect his throwing and thus his ultimate position. He had momentum in the 10-15 range coming out of the previous summer."

Ian Smith - Prospect 365 - Apr. 26th: "He can seem to cover ground effortlessly without having a plus speed tool. While the glove catches the headlines, Howard is uber-projectable with the bat, showcasing an extremely easy right-handed swing with present warning track power. However, the likelihood of Howard growing into his frame and showing above average raw power doesn’t look too far fetched."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "Ed Howard is a slick-fielding shortstop from Chicago with big-time potential. He makes all the throws from shortstop, as he has great range, clean footwork, and a strong and accurate arm."

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "Howard is a true shortstop with above-average speed and some feel to hit, still showing some projection on a slight frame but probably not getting to power, projecting as a possible regular."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - Jan. 31st : "He has an ideal body, standing 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, with plus actions and smooth footwork and hands. He throws well from most angles and has the short-area quickness and range that scouts like to see from a shortstop. "
