Position: C/1B
Team: Arizona

Austin Wells - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "The left-handed hitter has power to all fields, with good timing and a simple setup at the plate. He has strength and bat speed and controls the bat head well to make loud contact. He does strike out a bit, but he also draws a lot of walks. There are more concerns about where he might play defensively."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "A hole in his swing gives him problems with pitches away, but that’s a fixable problem. The bat is impressive enough that most teams view him as a first-round player, but questions remain as to where he fits best on the field."

Ian Smith - Prospect 365 - Apr. 26th: "Wells projects to be a 55 hit, 60+ power type profile as a professional. Where the concerns in Wells’ profiles lie are his defensive destination. A big body already at 6-foot-2 and 220 lbs., Wells shows good qualities as a backstop with a big arm and great leadership, but he struggles with breaking balls and doesn’t move particularly well."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "The left-handed hitter has power to all fields. The biggest question is Wells’ future defensive position, as he has work to do if he wants to stay behind the plate in pro ball."

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "A below-average arm and fringy defense might eventually push him to another position."

Athlon Sports - Mar. 10th: "There’s a healthy debate as to whether Wells will play catcher, first base or a corner outfield spot in pro ball, but there is a solid consensus that he should hit enough to be a productive pro even if he ends up at first base."
