Austin Martin - Prospect Profile

MLB.com - May : "The best pure hitter in the 2020 Draft, Martin has tremendous feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact with a short, quick right-handed stroke. He's not overly physical and may not have more than average raw power, but his hitting ability allows him to tap into every bit of it."

Carlos Collazo - Baseball America - May 13th: "Martin has some of the best pure hitting ability in the class, with eye-popping bat speed, excellent contact ability and impressive plate discipline as well. Martin also appeared to be increasing his power production."

Kiley McDaniel - ESPN - May 13th: " He's an above-average runner who likely fits best at second base, but some teams see a chance for a future at center field or third base. He's the best hitter in the draft that may also have the best plate discipline, and he has dominated the SEC."

ESPN - May 9th: "There was buzz that Martin might begin the season at shortstop for Vanderbilt, but he's still playing mostly third base. He's also well-equipped to be average or above defensively in center field (he's a plus runner) or at second base."

Ian Smith - Prospect 365 - Apr. 26th: "The NCAA All American brings a set of tools that all grade 55 or better across the board. Martin dazzles with a hit tool that is easily plus, utilizing a swing with natural loft and double plus bat speed. Still, his hit tool plays even higher due to the elite plate discipline (140 G, .474 OBP , 85:82 BB/K)."

Dan Zielinki - Baseball Prospect Journal - Mar. 22nd: "Martin is the likelier bet to be the Tigers’ pick due to his five-tool potential, which includes impressive defensive versatility. "

Keith Law - The Athletic - Mar. 16th: "He’s a plus runner with electric hands and a career OBP at Vanderbilt of .474, along with a strong track record on the bases."

Athlon Sports - Mar. 10th: "He’s athletic, and it will be at a premium defensive position, but it’s not clear if he’ll be a shortstop, center fielder or second baseman. His hitting ability is much more clear cut. "
