Nathan Kirby's Player Profile

Kirby made a name for himself out of high school when he took his name out of the 2012 draft class. So far, it seems as though the move as paid off, since he’s established himself as one of the top left-handers in college baseball.

Nathan has a solid frame and gets a good angle on his pitches, working from the extreme third base side of the rubber. His fastball has been up into the mid 90s in the past, but he was working more around 90 mph this spring. His slider is his out pitch and he also features a changeup.

Like so many other players in this draft class, Kirby suffered an injury that has caused his draft stock to fluctuate. He was diagnosed with a lat strain in mid April that would cause him to stay off the mound until the draft takes place. Teams could gamble that he’ll return to his dominant 2014 form, but his status is very much up in the air.
