Dillon Tate
Ht/Wt: 6' 2'/185 lbs
Position: RHP
Team: UC Santa Barbara

Dillon Tate's Player Profile

A reliever his first two years in college, Tate entered his junior season in Santa Barbara’s rotation and saw his stock soar. While he was seen as a first rounder as a college closer, his success as a starter, coupled with injuries to top prospects, has elevated his stock to the top of the draft.

Dillon’s fastball regularly registered in the upper 90s coming out of the pen and he still shows plenty of arm strength in his new role, usually topping out at 96 with good armside run. His go-to breaking ball is his slider, which he throws for strikes and as a chase pitch. He’ll also show a curveball with good shape and a changeup with sink and fade, but mostly lives off the fastball and slider.

Listed at 6’2 and 185 lbs, Tate is a good athlete who repeats his delivery well. However, there’s some effort and he’s yet to prove he can shoulder the load of a full season. He suffered a trapezoid injury that caused him to miss a start late in the spring. With Aiken and Matuella going down with Tommy John surgery, Dillon is now the top pitcher in the class and should be among the first three picks this June.
