Dansby Swanson's Player Profile
Swanson was a 38th round pick by the Rockies in 2012 and missed most of 2013 due to injuries, but the Vanderbilt shortstop looks like he’s going to be one of the top picks come June. After a lost freshman year, Dansby played exceptionally well as a sophomore, being named the Most Outstanding Player in the College World Series last season. He’s continued to perform this spring, batting .348/.444/.607 with 12 stolen bases. While he played second base as a sophomore, Swanson moved to short as a junior and has handled the transition well. He has quick actions, with enough range and arm to stick at the position as a pro. Offensively, he offers a line drive stroke and a solid eye to go along with good speed out of the box and on the basepaths.
Dansby isn’t overly physical, listed at 6’1 and 190 lbs, but offers some power projection while almost assuredly not outgrowing the position. He’s a middle infielder with production from one of the most prestigious programs in the country, so he’s a safe bet to be a Top 10 pick come June.
