Carson Fulmer's Player Profile
Fulmer was selected in the 15th round of the 2012 draft by the Red Sox, but made the right decision by attending Vanderbilt for three years and establishing himself as a surefire first round prospect. After working out of the bullpen as a freshman, Carson entered the rotation in 2014 and has become a dominant starter. While size isn’t his strong suit, as he’s listed at 6’ and 195 lbs, Fulmer generates his velocity with an aggressive delivery and lots of arm speed. His fastball sits in the low to mid 90s and he couples it with a devastating breaking ball. He has a changeup but hasn’t needed to use it much, though it could be an average pitch in the future.
Some teams may be scared off by the size and unconventional delivery, while others could compare him to Tim Lincecum, another undersized righty with frontline stuff. Nevertheless, in this draft class, he’s almost guaranteed to go in the top 10, as his health this spring has been just as important as his performance.
