Ashe Russell's Player Profile

Another prep hurler from a state not known as a baseball hotbed, Russell established himself last year on the showcase circuit as a hard thrower with a good slider and great hair. The Indiana native likely won’t follow through with his commitment to Texas A&M, as he seems destined to be a first round draft pick.

The 6’ 4” righty has been up to 96 with his fastball and it features good life thanks to his low arm angle. He also showcases a sharp slider that misses a lot of bats. He hasn’t needed his changeup much in high school but it could develop into an average pitch.

With a low, slinging delivery, some teams may question whether Russell is a starter long term. However, if he continues to throw strikes with two plus pitches and develops an average changeup, he’ll justify a team taking him in the first.
