Alex Bregman's Player Profile
After being drafted in the 29th round in 2012 by the Red Sox, Bregman decided to honor his commitment to LSU and the decision should pay off handsomely. The junior shortstop has been considered one of the best hitters in college baseball over the past three years and figures to be one of the top bats taken in the upcoming draft.Generously listed at 6’, Bregman earns Dustin Pedroia comparisons for his polished bat, up-the-middle glove and stature. While some evaluators projected him to move off short coming into the year, he’s shown more aptitude as a junior and uses his instincts to make plays. At the plate, he sprays line drives all over the field and even displays some home run power, while also walking more than he’s struck out in each of the past two seasons.
Bregman doesn’t have the most explosive tools, but he’s an advanced college hitter who can stick in the middle of the diamond. Even if he has to move to second, there’s enough offensive value to warrant a Top 10 selection.
