Matt Chapman's Player Profile
Hit / On-base – The biggest question mark for Chapman is the hit tool, as there’s a ton of swing and miss to his game – particularly against better breaking stuff – and he has a tendency to get a bit pull happy as well.Power – I’m not sure if any hitter in the class has more raw power from the right side than Chapman – as he’s got plenty of strength and bat speed and I’ve seen some mammoth shots both in batting practice.
Speed – Speed is not really a part of Chapman’s game, but he won’t remind anyone of a Molina when he’s on base.
Glove – I had a couple of mixed reports of Chapman on defense, but I saw a guy with a 70 arm (he’s hit 98 on a gun from the mound) and with good footwork and the necessary athleticism to be very good there. If he loses some athleticism he could be forced to move across the diamond, but I think that’s probably a ways away, if at all.
