Jacob Gatewood's Player Profile

Hit / On-base – Gatewood has a tendency to over swing, and with a long bat path that leads to some swing and miss and timing issues. I’ve also seen Gatewood struggle against better breaking stuff, and patience could be an issue.

Power – Gatewood has plenty of power in his right-handed bat, as he has extremely strong wrists and generates plus bat speed. It’s almost entirely to the pull side, but 30-plus homer seasons are not out of the question.

Speed – I’d qualify Gatewood as more quick than fast. With average speed.

Glove – The industry is a bit torn as to whether or not Gatewood has a future as a major league shortstop, but I’d give him a chance to play the position with third as a fallback. He’s got decent hands and plenty of arm strength, but most believe the lack of athleticism necessitates a move to the hot corner.
