Cameron Varga's Player Profile

Varga was selected to participate in several of the summer events this summer – and with good reason – but an arm injury forced him to miss the showcase season.

When healthy, Varga will show a fastball that will touch the mid 90’s, sitting 90-92 with sinking action as well. There isn’t much shape to his breaking-ball, but there’s plenty of spine and when it’s at its best there’s late bite to the offering. His change will also flash above-average with solid arm speed and occasionally some fade.

There’s a lot to like about Varga’s right arm, but there are some large question marks as well. His arm action requires a substantial deal of effort, and scouts will have to do a lot of homework, especially after the issues this summer. He’s also one of the oldest prospects in the class, as he’ll turn 20 this August and will be a draft-eligible sophomore should he chose to attend North Carolina. That being said, there’s No. 3 stuff in Varga’s arm, with a chance for more if the breaking-ball shows more consistent depth.
